For much of her career at KIRO-TV (CBS), Hutchison anchored the highest-rated newscasts in Seattle, receiving numerous awards, including five Emmys for producing, writing, and reporting news and documentaries.

Hutchison is now the Executive Director of the Charles Simonyi Fund for Arts and Sciences, a philanthropic foundation based in Seattle that provides grants to the arts, science and education programs. The foundation's local partners include the Seattle Public Schools, Seattle Public Library, Seattle Symphony, Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Science Center, Museum of Flight, Bellevue Arts Museum, Medical Teams International, Issaquah Village Theater, Seattle Opera, Seattle Children's Hospital, and several others totaling more than $30 million.

Hutchison volunteers on the boards of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C., Seattle Art Museum, and Young Life International and recently served as chair of the Seattle Symphony. She has been on the boards of Seattle Children's Hospital, and the Salvation Army and has been a spokesperson for American Leprosy Mission, Job Corps, and March of Dimes.

Hutchison and her husband Andy, a Boeing executive and retired Marine Corps Reserve Colonel, live in Seattle where their two sons have grown up attending public schools.
